The end of the Chesapeake

Out of the Chesapeake L and J

It’s sad to be out of the Chesapeake, but good to be heading south. The nights are chillier, and the fall colours are showing themselves, so we know we have to keep migrating.

Today, we motor-sailed for 8hr. to reach Norfolk, Virginia at the southern tip of the Chesapeake Bay. This is what Captain Gil’s day looked like….

We passed by a few lighthouses….

 Wolf Trap Lighthouse

 New Point Comfort Lighthouse

Hampton Light (?)

We were joined by bigger guys as we neared shipping channels around Hampton and Norfolk.

Finally, after 8 hours of  listening to our engine, we dropped anchor in Willoughby Bay … beside a helicopter and hovercraft training facility…. more noise! Also very near the naval base, which is apparently the world's largest.

The S.S. Enterprise?

 helicopter training drills
