28th - 29th.May.2019 From the Middle of Nowhere to the Middle of Everything

Are we there yet?

What a difference a couple of days can make. The anchorage in Little Alligator River is in the middle of nowhere. Sailing from there, across the Albemarle Sound, into the North River, and through the canal to Coinjock Bay, these were our sights to see...

fish wiers

? duck blinds ?

pristine shoreline

osprey were plentiful

roots poking out of the water

man made canal, the only sign of civilization

We stopped after the first day just shy of the North Carolina - Virginia border, in the North Landing River. Gil tossed his crab pot overboard....

our first crab!

The following morning (after retrieving our crab, and removing Serenada's freckles) we continued up the North Landing River and down the Elizabeth River to the end of the ICW in Norfolk, Virginia. What a drastic change in scenery!

We had to wait for a train to pass (a first for us), and then both bridges opened together.

Serenada passing through twin bridges

These were our sights to see in Norfolk.... quite a contrast!

Willoughby Bay served as our anchorage while in Norfolk. We had a brief spell of high winds and thunderstorms, during which we dragged anchor. No harm as a result - it's a huge bay; but we did relocate ourselves to a spot with better holding for the night.
