Dolphins and a Marlin

Our sail from Portsmouth, Dominica to Basse Terre, Guadeloupe was eventful; but not because of any weather. We were treated to an outstanding (and free) dolphin show. There must have been 20 dolphins in the pod, and they stayed with Serenada for a good photo shoot.... 'playing at her bow while I took pictures.

There was more! Gil had a line out, as he often does. This day, he hooked a marlin! It breached five times, before Gil lost it.  When Gil increased the tension on the line, it broke  :(. This may in part have been due to the wear and tear from the sun and salt on this line; so Gil has since replaced it with 1500 ft. of 50lb. test 12 gauge spectral line, in the hopes of having a fair fight with the next one. His lucky lure stayed with that lost marlin, and also must be replaced.

The thrill and the excitement were brief, but Gil relives those moments often!

the one that got away!
