snapping shrimp

Shrimp are small, but they sure can be noisy!! You’d think it would always be quiet at anchor if you chose a spot away from the civilized world. Not always. We’ve heard their noise several nights now – sounds like the snap, crackle, pop of rice krispies; but it can get quite loud. I’ve used earplugs at night to subdue the noise. If you’re curious about it, there’s a good YouTube video titled snapping shrimp.... here's the link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONQlTMUYCW4    Wierd.

With an improved weather forecast, there was a mass exodus out of St. Augustine this morning. Gil & I had decided to leave early - 7:00am - as the ICW has a very long straight stretch of canal south from here, with few anchorages, and we knew we had to go the distance today. So we were very surprised to find ourselves amongst a flotilla of a dozen boats, all leaving at the same time. Great minds think alike, right? We were all choosing to do the same ... leave with a rising tide to speed us along.

So today was another travelling day - 9 hours - from St. Augustine to Daytona Beach.

There are still crab pots and watermen even here in Florida's ICW!

Though our day was largely uneventful, we saw three more most unfortunate events... I can't believe how many there are!
