Yole Racing

Yole racers about to pass on either side of us!

What a surprise it was to come out of Marin Bay, over to St. Anne’s and find ourselves literally in the middle of Yole racing.  There were a large number of very colourful double square sailed boats; all quite narrow and sporting rows of long bamboo poles; with crews of over a dozen strong. They were awesome to watch.

We sat in the water to allow the racers past us, and then proceeded to anchor; only to realize that these Yoles were racing through the boats at anchor! It was great for pictures….

oops .... not a good ending

watched also by our friends on Serenade

coming straight for us...

...they had to tack to avoid us!

notice the crew member 'paddling' on starboard

 great team work

the fine art of balancing the boat

watching them as they passed our stern
