11.May.2019 Stuck in the Mud

not us, but we've done it too

We had come into Calabash Creek in the dark of night, dropped anchor, and promptly fell fast asleep.

The following day (which started late) we noticed that Serenada's orientation in the anchorage wasn't similar to the other two boats there. Hmmm....  Oh oh. We powered up the chart plotter / depth sounder and waited for it to boot up. When it did, the depth reading that flashed back was 2.5 ft! Serenada drafts 4.5 ft.  The tide had gone out and she was stuck in the mud!

We've heard it said that on the ICW, there are boats that have hit bottom, and boats that will hit bottom. Captains that deny this aren't being truthful.

Our solution? We waited for the tide to come back in, lift Serenada out of the mud, and then re-anchored in deeper water. Stuff happens to the best of us.
