Life at Anchor in Grenada

at anchor in St. George's harbour, Grenada
(not everyday in paradise is sunny!)

It feels good to stay put. Each day, we have no plans. So what have we been doing by default?

Sendall tunnel built in 1894

We’ve meandered about the port city of St. George. There’s a very old tunnel, built in 1894, on the way to the mall (much more modest than the malls back home).  We’ve found 3 grocery stores, 2 bakeries, a fresh market, the fish market, the Saturday market, the liquor store, banks, the hardware, the chandlery … we’ve gotten to know our way around town, and we both got haircuts!

Jorge’s influence has seen us watching some of the FIFA soccer matches. He’s an avid Argentina fan, so he & Kim celebrated their win over Iran. I’ve chosen to root for the Netherlands, and celebrated their win over Chile.

...and me, celebrating Holland's win over Chile

Kim’s influence has seen us enjoying a beach day. On Sundays there is live music at one of the restaurants on Grand Anse beach, so we strategically placed ourselves within ear shot.

One day, Kim & I walked (and walked … it’s about 2 miles away) to our favourite grocery store, an IGA! We passed by a group of local guys selling land crabs – the same crabs Gil & I watched being snared and caught on shore at Halifax Harbour.  So, I had to take a picture, as I missed that chance earlier.

I've got crabs :-)

Heading back to our boat in the dinghy, Gil & I stopped to see what a couple of fisherman had caught, and ended up with fish for dinner, of course. This time, we tried parrot fish. They’re beautiful fish, and after sampling them for dinner, our verdict was that they should be left in the water!

We’ve tended to some boat jobs: filled the gas jerry can (for the dinghy), refilled the propane, caught up on laundry, polished the bright, scrubbed the boat's bottom, … it never ends.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring….
