mysterious sights and sounds

No Name Harbour
(we're on the wall - far left)

Before we left No Name Harbour (very popular for boats waiting to cross over to the Bahamas) this morning, we took advantage of their free pumpout (to empty our holding tank). The Florida chickens (egrets) crowded the sea wall.

Today, we sailed ALL day!! The motor was on just to leave and enter our anchorages. We can't boast that we had one tack all day - we needed to tack a few times; but the sailing was good and the seas were mild. Another cruiser took some pictures of us under sail. I'll confess that was a few weeks ago, and we only just received the photos; but we looked almost the same today (we had both sails up).

We anchored for the night in Angelfish Creek, another jump off point for those wishing to cross over to the Bahamas, but not nearly as popular as No Name Harbour. We were alone here, amongst the mangroves. Very quiet, except for the air traffic ... I think we're under someone's flight path!

We were sitting up on deck at night, and witnessed an unusual sight. It was too dark to grab a photo L … lights in the water …. floating with the current, there were swirls of light (phosphorescence? bioluminosity? whatever?) which grew and dissipated. We thought at first that they might be jellyfish, but then we thought not …. we’ve no idea what we witnessed, but there were lots of them …. and we’d both gone for a swim earlier! Creepy.

So that made me remember that we’d also encountered a mysterious sound while anchored in Lake Sylvia – the sound of a woodpecker on our hull. I can’t describe it much better than that. Again, we’ve no idea what we were hearing.

So if anyone can enlighten us as to what these mysterious sights and sounds are, please do so!

  1. There is some sort of water creature that hatches phosphorescently on a full moon.
Saw them in Grenada & Turks & Caicos
